Red Rooibos Tea

Rooibos, also known as African red tea, is a drink obtained by infusing the dried leaves of Aspalathus linearis, a South African shrubby plant . The term “rooibos” means “red bush” in the local language (Afrikaans), which underlines the vermilion color of the drink.

Despite being called tea, rooibos is not a true tea because it does not come from the tea plant (Camellia Sinensis) . However, it shares several characteristics with tea, such as the preparation methods (infusion of the dried and chopped leaves), the flavor and several nutraceutical properties .

Rooibos has a pleasant flavour, slightly sweet and less bitter than green tea and black tea. This is due to the modest content of tannins and the absence of caffeine.
